About Botany
The institute was established in 1955, recognized under 2f and 12(B) of the UGC Act is a model constituent college of B.R. A. Bihar University, situated in Bettiah, the District Head of West Champaran, Bihar. It has post-graduation Department of Art and Humanities and undergraduate level of teaching for Science.
Department of Botany is one of the premier departments of Science faculty in the institute. The institute imparts liberal co-education mode of education. The department provides facilities of laboratory, field study. The taxonomic study of the local flora as per syllabus is being conducted as a part of curricular activities. For this students are encouraged to collect plant species from their locality and identification is done under guidance of Faculty members. Similarly, other field studies such as ecological experiments are being conducted so that “Student Centric Education” and “learning by doing” is being encouraged in the institute. The department also encourages co-curricular activities for the overall development of students. The students have shown their excellence by participation in NSS, NCC and cultural activities. NSS wing of our institute provides a platform for involvement in social activities such as SWACHHA BHARAT ABHIYAN, mass campaign for social issues.
Students are encouraged to present on online platforms such as webinar as well as in seminar organized in the Department. In addition, students have access to institutional library and intranet, which allow them to get updated knowledge

- Conservation and Sustainable Use of Plant Resources: To play a pivotal role in the conservation of the rich and diverse flora of West Champaran, promoting sustainable use of plant resources, and preserving traditional knowledge related to plants.
- Empowering Future Botanists and Environmental Stewards: To educate and train future generations of botanists, researchers, conservationists, and educators who will contribute to the understanding, protection, and sustainable management of plant life in the region and beyond.
Primary responsibilities:
- Teaching and Education:
Offering a range of courses in botany, covering topics like plant physiology, genetics, ecology, diversity, and evolution, leading to degrees like B.Sc. in Botany.
Ph.D. : Ph.D. students, specializing in areas like plant biotechnology, plant pathology, or ecological botany.
Practical Training: Conducting laboratory sessions and field trips to provide students with hands-on experience in plant identification, experimentation, and analysis.
- Research and Innovation:
Research Projects: Conducting research in various fields of botany, contributing to the understanding of plant life and its applications in agriculture, medicine, and environmental conservation.
Publications: Publishing research findings in scientific journals and presenting them at conferences.
Grant Proposals: Seeking funding from government agencies and other organizations to support research activities.
- Community Engagement and Outreach:
Extension Services: Sharing knowledge and expertise with the students through workshops, seminars, and demonstrations on topics related to plant cultivation, conservation, and sustainable use.
Collaboration: Partnering with local organizations, farmers, and government agencies to address issues related to plant health, biodiversity, and environmental sustainability.
Public Awareness: Raising awareness about the importance of plants and their role in the ecosystem through public lectures, exhibitions, and educational materials.
- Resource Management and Development:
Herbarium: Maintaining a collection of preserved plant specimens for research and educational purposes.
Botanical Garden: Developing and maintaining a botanical garden for the study and conservation of plant species.
Laboratories: Equipping and maintaining well-equipped laboratories for teaching and research activities.
